Livestock farming is practiced in all over Pakistan by millions of farming and landless households. The livestock sub-sector constitutes a more important source of food and means of sustenance in rainfed, mountainous and desert ecologies of Pakistan. Livestock farming is main agricultural activity in deserts because in these areas crop farming opportunities are relatively few due to very low rainfall, sandy soils and meagre availability of good quality ground water. This sector shares by 53.2 percent in the total agricultural value added and about 11.4 percent in national GDP Pakistan (2010).
