AESA Policy Brief Submission Guidelines
AESA invites practitioners, academicians, and thought leaders in extension and development to submit policy briefs addressing critical issues in agriculture.
What is a Policy Brief?
A policy brief is a short, focused document that outlines a specific issue, explores possible policy responses, and offers recommendations for the most suitable course of action. It is intended for government policymakers and others involved in shaping or influencing policy decisions.
Tips for writing a Policy Brief
- Be Clear and Concise
Limit the brief to approximately 800–1200 words. The problem statement should be clear and direct, addressing the urgency, scale, and relevance of the issue. - Know Your Audience
Avoid jargon. Remember, you are writing for non-specialists—policymakers or stakeholders with limited time. Include only information relevant to their interests and capacity to act. - Base It on Solid Evidence
Support your claims with data, credible research, or expert consensus. Use charts or visuals sparingly but effectively to illustrate trends or outcomes. Present competing perspectives fairly (if applicable), and build your case using facts, not ideology. - Avoid Vague Recommendations
Offer clear, actionable suggestions. Propose specific policy options, considering feasibility, trade-offs, and the appropriate actors responsible for implementation. - Include a Call to Action
Conclude with a strong summary or next steps that encourage policy engagement or follow-up.
Submission Format
Email your policy brief (structured as suggested below) as a Word document, along with a duly completed submission agreement form, to crispindia@gmail.com. Attach any images, charts, or other media used in the brief as separate files.
