Extension and advisory service (EAS) providers worldwide do need new capacities to support farmers to deal with the dynamic changes that are happening currently. Distance learning is perhaps the only way to enhance capacity of the large number of EAS providers. The experience of MANAGE in implementing the Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Extension Management (PGDAEM) programme for over a decade offers several lessons for organizing similar programmes in other countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. There should be concentrated efforts to strengthen this initiative as well as to replicate it across countries and regions in different forms to suit their specific/local requirements.
