This study enriches the existing knowledge by specifying three defining features of agriculture in contemporary Bangladesh: widespread use of modern agricultural machinery; extensive use of hybrid and high-yielding varieties (HYV), particularly of rice and vegetables; and heavy reliance on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides. This report seeks to answer a fundamental question: What is the future direction of Bangladesh’s agriculture, particularly regarding the use of new agri-technologies and crop varieties? The findings draw from a nationwide qualitative study conducted between 2023 and 2024, covering all eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh.
