AESA and BAEN jointly Organised a Webinar on “Business Oriented RAS” and “Gender Youth and Nutrition Sensitive RAS”, on 27 June 2024

The Agricultural Extension in South Asia (AESA) and Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Network (BAEN) cohosted a successful webinar on June 27, 2024. The event, titled “Gender-Youth-Nutrition (GYN) Oriented Rural Advisory Services (RAS) and Business Oriented RAS”, explored innovative approaches from Rural Advisory Service (RAS) providers who are empowering smallholder farmers in Bangladesh. This webinar, aligned with the “Delivering extension service to the Last mile” project funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Experts including Fida Haq (Pranisheba Pvt. Ltd), Shamim Alon (ODSD/AR Mallik Seed), and Prof. Ashiqul Islam (BAU, Mymensingh) as panelists, shared insights and strategies on how business oriented RAS supports farmers making smallholder agricultural operations more efficient and profitable.

Representatives including Shahid Uddin Akaber (BIID), Dr. Samina Islam (BASA Foundation), and Moniruzzzaman Bipul (GAIN) as panelists discussed how innovative approaches such as homestead nutrition, school nutrition garden, community nutrition counselling concept, behavior change communication and emotional demonstrations can be implemented at community level to promote gender equality, youth involvement, and improved nutrition within small-scale farming.

The webinar encouraged 49 participants and panelists to engage in interactive discussions with dedicated Q&A sessions. Concluding remarks highlighted the good practices adopted by RAS providers in driving a more sustainable, inclusive, and empowering future for smallholder farmers in Bangladesh highlighting the relevance of Business oriented RAS and Gender Youth and Nutrition oriented RAS.
