Behavioural Change Communication for Natural Farming in India

This workshop organised by Vetiver in partnership with MANAGE, AESA and IORA Ecological Solutions brought together Behaviural Change Communication (BCC) practitioners, researchers, farmers and policy makers engaged in promotion of more sustainable, inclusive climate resilient, organic and natural farming in India. The workshop discussed the wide range of BCC approaches being used in India, highlighted the need for more science and evidence based communication strategies that meet the needs of the varied segments of the farming community, BCC strategies appropriate to the user, the facilitator/influencer, the consumers and other value chain actors, the importance of facilitation and support to decision making (instead of promoting approaches on ideological grounds) and the need for more research to identify the appropriate BCC strategies. Dr N Balasubramani from MANAGE gave the opening remarks. Dr S Bhaskar, Advisor, Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare; Dr C K Timbadia, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Natural Farming Science University; and Dr V Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University addressed the gathering. In a Panel Discussion moderated by Rasheed Sulaiman V (CRISP-AESA), the Panelists included Mahesh Chander, ICAR-IVRI; Sethuraman Sivakumar ICAR-CTCRI; G V Ramanjaneyelu, CSA; Ajith Radhakrishnan, World Bank; G Muralidhar RySS and Pwankumar, Patanjali Organic Research Institute, shared their experienes with BCC approaches.
